![]() The second barding is from the new Extreme Trial. The Horrendous Hoarder will sell it to you for 4,000 Seafarer’s Cowries. The first is the Felicitous Barding which can be purchased on your Island Sanctuary. I’ve organized the bardings into categories based on how you go about obtaining them, so you can see which ones are easy to pick up, and which ones will require more time (or money) to collect. You might also be a completionist looking to get as many of these bardings in your collection as possible. While barding is typically a type of armour, for gameplay purposes it’s purely aesthetic and doesn’t affect your chocobo’s stats or survivability in any way. ![]() The second customization is to change the barding it wears. The first aesthetic option is to change the colour of its feathers, which requires access to a Chocobo stable, either from a private estate, FC estate, or apartment building. It will not use extra dyes when you apply the plate later. If you’re the kind of player who’s interested in glamour, I’m betting that probably extends to your Chocobo companion as well, and you’d prefer to give them a stylish look that complements your own attire. You can also dye from within glamour plates, which only uses the dye when you first place it on the plate. You can preview the dyes before you use them Image: Square Enix via Polygon Manually dyeing your gear will cost one dye per dyejob. You can use by selecting the gear from your armory or character screen. You can get dyes from vendors, from crafting them from pigments, and from a variety of other means. Once you complete the quest “Color Your World,” you’ll be able to dye gear. To unlock the ability to dye, talk to Swyrgeim, the same NPC who unlocked glamour. To do so, select the gear set button, the gear set you want to link, and “link to glamour plate.” Using dyes on your gear in FFXIV By doing this, even if your Paladin and Gunbreaker share the same gear, you can give them different looks that will automatically update when you switch to that item set, as long as you’re in a town. You can also link glamour plates to item sets, which allows for some extra fancy gear set making. However, you can only cast glamour plates when you’re in a city. Using the dresser, you can make glamour plates, which allow you to cast glamour for an entire outfit at once, rather than one by one.
